Water is essential for you body and good health. Here are few guidelines to help you find out how much daily water intake is necessary for you.

A simple question is How much water do you need every single day. But the answer is not quite simple. As there are lot of recommendation from experts and there is no set rule for this. Because need of water for human body depends on many factors including health, activities and place where you live. No single formula fits everyone.

How Much Water Do You Need?

Everyday you lose water in form of breath, perspiration and urine. If the water intake is not adequate than you might face dehydration. For your body to work properly you must replenish the water supply by using beverages and foods that contain water. Many vegetables are also a good source of water and you can take them to avoid dehydration.

So here are the general recommendation by U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering for the daily water intake.

  • About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day for men
  • About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women

Have you ever heard about 8 glass of water everyday? It is a easy to remember. Some people need more than 8 glass and few need less but it is a fair goal to drink 8 glasses of water everyday. It depends also on your routine. If you are exercising you need more water. The warm water make you sweat more so you need more water. Water intake also depends on your health.

A fair way to make your water intake adequate is to drink water when you feel thirsty. In hot weather take a bottle of water with you to avoid dehydration and sip water according to the need of your body.

Drinking water more than your need is sometime not good for your health. When you drink too much water, your kidneys can’t get rid of the excess water. The sodium content of your blood becomes diluted. This is called hyponatremia and it can be life-threatening.
